About the stone

Red Aswan carries one of the longest architectural pedigrees of any stone: the same pink-to-red granite of the Aswan region was worked for obelisks, statues and temple elements in ancient Egypt. Commercially it offers a warm, coarse-grained red with dark mineral accents — a confident choice for façades, stairs, paving and statement interiors.

Geological note

Aswan’s pink-to-red granite is the stone of the ancient obelisk quarries, including the famous Unfinished Obelisk. The photographs on this page show that rock at Aswan and in ancient monuments — they are not photographs of a commercial slab.

Visual characteristics

  • Coarse grain with large pink-red feldspar crystals
  • Black and grey mineral accents
  • Colour varies from pink to deep red-brown between blocks
